Patriots girls tennis improves to 3-0

Through high winds and some sparatic rain, the Albemarle girls lacrosse team picked up a 9-1 home victory over Massaponax.

For the second time in three matches, the Patriots were missing members of their top six, with Abby Lesnoff and Ivy Haines out of the lineup, but Yvinne Zhang and Maddi Cullough moved up the ladder and picked up 10-2 and 10-1 respective wins.

“That’s a luxury most coaches don’t have,” said Albemarle coach Rich Lindsay. “To oull a kid up and have it be a junior and senior and have them perform like that.”

With the match already won after singles, the Patriots got their best compitition in the doubles portion. Megan Napolitano and Tori Kuhn fought back from 4-1 to win their match 10-5. Summer Caton and Vicky Zarate trailed 8-7 in their match but were able to fight through and pick a 10-8 victory.

Albemarle (3-0, 2-0) travels to Western Albemarle Friday at 5 p.m.
