Morris lifts STAB boys lacrosse past St. Albans

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s attackman Michael Morris is occasionally overlooked on a line includes one of the state’s best finishers, Andrew Crockett and almost certainly the state’s best setup man, Owen Van Arsdale.

Friday night it was impossible to overlook Morris.

Morris poured in six goals and dished out two assists to help boost STAB past St. Albans 14-13 in the Saints’ first game against an in-state opponent.

STAB started the year with a pair of loses to national powers Gilman and St. Mary’s, falling to Gillman 14-12 after the game was tied with under five minutes to play. The Saints’ contest with St. Mary’s got away from them a bit in a 17-7 loss, but STAB recovered nicely with the win over St. Albans.

Morris wasn’t the only standout with bigtime numbers. Van Arsdale had six assists and a goal of his own, while Chapin Speidel finished with four goals and an assist from the midfield. Crockett had a pair of goals in the win, while Connor McCollough rounded out the Saints’ scoring with a goal.

Austin Geisler, STAB’s star goalie, had nine saves to spearhead the Saints’ defense in the win.
