Monticello’s balance outpaces Albemarle in girls lacrosse

Monticello’s more balanced offensive performance won out Thursday night in a shootout with Albemarle High—but not before Albemarle’s Connor Carson poured in eight goals for the Patriots in the 19-15 Monticello win.

Carson accounted for over 50 percent of the Patriots’ offense, but Albemarle couldn’t scrape together the victory because Monticello got seven goals out of senior Brittany Haun, five goals out of Jessie Valentic and four goals out of sophomore Ari Slate. The Mustangs led 12-10 at the half.

Monticello unleashed a barrage of shots—35 in all—and Marie Schneider came up with nine saves. Monticello’s Taylor Paige stopped five Albemarle shots on goal.

Mai Toms and Hanna Shaps had a pair of goals each for the Patriots. Toms also had an assist.
