Monticello’s boys swim team struggled to win dual meets until this season, but once the Mustangs broke through, they’ve never really looked back.
The Mustangs moved to 4-1 just before the Holiday break, beating Heritage and Brookville in a tri-meet in Lynchburg. Monticello scored 121 to take the win, with Brookeville’s taking second with 116 and Heritage taking third with a score of 52.
Monticello’s 200-medley relay of Colin Mooney, Reed Shaw, Ryan Mitchell and Grant Worsham won, as did the 400-freestyle relay of Miles Rodi, Mooney, Shaw and Mitchell.
Individual winners included Miles Rodi in the 200 free and 500-free, Mitchell in the 200-IM and 100-fly and Reed Shaw in the 100-breast.
The Mustang girls got wins out of the 200-medley relay and 200-freestyle relay teams of Kathryn Deane, Kristen Grimshaw, Mary Elam and Shannon Simko. Elam won the 100-free as well.
