Monticello girls lacrosse rolls past Charlottesville

Sydney Larese kicked Monticello into another gear Friday night and it was a big part of the reason the Mustangs rolled past a depleted Charlottesville squad 20-7 Friday evening.

Larese notched 10 points on the night with eight goals and a pair of assists. Caroline MacDonald and Ari Slate also finished with hat tricks as well as an assist each. Slate was dominant on the draw with 10 controls on the night.

Madison Combs rounded out the bulk of the scoring with two goals and an assist.

Monticello held a 20-15 advantage on ground balls and a 21-8 margin on the draw.

The Black Knights playing without their starting keeper and a pair of starting midfielders due to injuries and family responsibilities. That made hanging with the explosive Mustangs a tall task for Charlottesville.

Still, Jamie Kusyk piled up five goals for the Black Knights to give Charlottesville an offensive spark.

The Black Knights will host Fluvanna County Tuesday night while the Mustangs face Albemarle Thursday night on the road.
