With time winding down, William Monroe’s Desmon Shaver flew into the lane and missed a short runner. Lucky for Shaver, his teammate Markell Faulkner was underneath and managed to get his hand on it for a tip-in as the final buzzer sounded.
The ball fell through and gave the Dragons a 65-64 victory over Luray, a team that 10 days ago beat Monroe by 20 points in Luray.
Monroe pulled in a rebound with about 23 seconds left and down by a point, eventually calling a timeout with 13 seconds left on the clock to set up a play for Shaver. Shaver missed, but Faulkner came up with the incredible bucket against a very solid Luray squad.
Shaver led the Dragons with 20 points on the night while Markel Williams had 16. Faulkner finished with 10. JoJo Krynitsky led Monroe with nine rebounds.
The Dragons continue a murderous stretch this week today against archrival Madison County before taking on Charlottesville Friday.
