Miller leads Western in JD mini-match

Playing at Rivanna Resort Golf Course, the Western Albemarle golf team came out on top at a Jefferson District mini-match on Monday.

The Warriors placed out in front of Orange Coutnty by 56 strokes with a team score of 303. It was a tight race for second, third and fourth place. The Hornets (359) edged William Monroe (361) by two strokes who in turn finishing ahead of Goochland (362) by one stroke for third.

Kent Miller put together the day’s best round with his even-par 72 for the Warriors. Miller narrowly beet out teammate Brett Engle who shot 1-over 73. Western’s Scott Wakely was third with a 4-over 76.

For Orange, Jared McGhee and Zach Yowell paced their team with respective scores of 14-over 86 and 15-over 87. William Monroe’s Dave Chonoles and Brian Snow each shot in the 80’s with Chonoles putting in a 13-over 85 and Snow finishing at 16-over 88.

Other notable scores included Monticello’s Evan Childress who finished tied fourth as indivudal at 10-over 82 along with Western’s Landon Weis. Louisa County’s Brady Nolan was sixth at 12-over 84. Ben Swecker and Trent Dankos shot 13-over 85 and 14-over 86 for Goochland. Charlottesville’s Casey Devine-Rosser also pieced together a round of 13-over 85.
