Madison boys wrap up Bull Run title

Madison made quite a few additions to its trophy case Friday night. The Mountaineers took home the Bull Run District championship, coach of the year in Ben Breeden, and player of the year in Logan Terrell – all in one night.

“It’s a great accomplishment,” Terrell said. “But I wouldn’t be able to do any of it without the help of my teammates and coaching staff.”

The hardware was just a finishing touch on a victorious night for the

Mountaineers as they squeaked by George Mason 45-42.

Terrell lead all scorers with 14 points on the night as he marched his

Mountaineers to their 20th win on the season.

After a 6-0 Madison run to start the game, it seemed that the boys in blue and white would run all over George Mason as they’ve done so many teams throughout the season. The Mustangs weren’t about to let that happen.

Freshman point guard Aaron Young’s 11 points along with Jordan Cheney and Nate Ogle’s hard work on the boards kept the Mustangs close throughout all 32 minutes of action.

Madison made their final run with five minutes left in regulation as Terrell drove hard to the basket, scored the deuce, drew the contact and tallied three points the old fashioned way. A Jerel Carter rebound and long transition outlet to David Faulk would produce a similar result.

A pair of Matt Garr free throws with 12 seconds left would put George Mason away for good.

No.1 seed Madison will host their first round game of the Division 1, Region B tournament Tuesday against No. 8 seed Buffalo Gap.
