Louisa boys win Fred Hardy title

Louisa County may have graduated some key pieces from last year’s track and field team including hurdles star Dante Davis, but several athletes are already filling those gaps.

Tony Green and Corrin Harris both put together huge days Saturday at the Fredy Hardy Invitational hosted by Fork Union Military Academy. Green and Harris took one-two in the long jump with leaps of 22-6 and 21-7 respectively, then took first and third in the triple with Green going 46-5.25 to win it. Green also won the 55-hurdles, then joined forces with Harris, Ryan Price and John Ragland to win the 4×200 relay. J.D. Dennis then pulled off a third place in shotput.

Throw in Cory Osborne’s runner-up finish in the 300-meter and it all added up to an invitational team victory for the Lions in a meet studded with Group AAA schools, including sixth place local power Albemarle.

The Patriots leaned on the track events to score points, taking third in the 4×800 behind Forest Park and Henrico. Mark Baucom placed third in the 500-meter, freshman Ryan Thomas placed third in the 1,000 and Adam Visokay pulled off a runner-up finish in the 3,200, clocking in six seconds behind Monticello’s Nathaniel Hermsmeier.

Fork Union took second overall behind Louisa County, riding a balanced performance across the board to the runner-up trophy. Shawn Schimper and Tyron Mcdade took second and fourth in the high jump for FUMA while Michael Idziak took first place in the 1000, finishing in2:38.18. Fork Union’s 4×400 team won with a time of 3:37.30.

David Johnson of Charlottesville placed third in the long and second in the triple jump. Fluvanna’s Chance Parmly vaulted 13-6 in pole vault to take home the title.

On the girls side, Western Albemarle finished fourth, led by the 4×800 team that won by more than five seconds with Mattie Webb, Katie Farina, Killian O’Connell and Claire Johnson teaming up.

Summer Shepherd placed third in the pole vault for Albemarle, checking in behind Western’s Kelsey Grupp and Fluvanna’s Hannah Meador. Albemarle’s Elizabeth Sinclair finished second in the 3200-meter.
