Goochland football shuts out Wilson Memorial

Goochland and Wilson Memorial have been involved in a lot of playoff battles over the years.

Friday won’t go down as a classic.

The Bulldogs rolled this time over Wilson, cruising 35-0 to a Region 2A East opening round win over an opponent that seems to be required to take on Goochland in every playoff bracket.

Goochland jumped out to a 28-0 lead in the first half, with Calvin Martin, Marcus Burton and Reid Chenault all scoring on the ground while the Bulldogs’ defense clamped down on Wilson. The Bulldogs held Wilson to just 126 yards of total offense.

Goochland got a strong, efficient outing from Chenault who went 9-for-15 for 146 yards and a passing touchdown to Cordell Mattox. Marcus Burton rushed for 98 yards on just seven touches as the Bulldogs spread the wealth. Wyatt Smith had 56 yards on six carries and Daric Clarke had 38 yards on six touches of his own.

Calvin Martin scored twice including Goochland’s lone second half touchdown and on just five carries for nine yards.

The Bulldogs will now play Greensville in the Region 2A East quarterfinals.
