Fluvanna County’s boys soccer team defeated Orange County Monday night, shutting out the Hornets, 5-0.

“We weren’t trying to run the score up on them,” said Fluvanna head coach Patrick Deiter. “Our program has improved steadily, and Orange is not playing at the level that they used to.”

The game began as slow struggle, but the tempo increased after Fluco freshman Dale Ludwig scored in the 19th minute off of an assist from teammate Dylan Wilkins. Ten minutes later, Josh Hinkle headed the Flucos’ second goal into the net assisted by Tygh Allbaugh.

With two minutes left in the first half, Fluvanna’s Taylor Rafaly was able to get a foot on the ball just before colliding with Orange goal keeper Hunter Feguson. As the two players tumbled to the ground, the ball rolled into the goal and the Fluco Faithful erupted in applause.

The second half proved less intense until Josue Franco scored the Flucos’ fourth goal with a spectacular bicycle kick in 68th minute.

“I felt like we really connected tonight,” said Franco. “I think my goal increased the tempo and allowed us to finish strong.”

With two minutes left in the contest, Mikey Toy was able to send one more past the keeper securing the shutout victory.

Fluvanna (7-0-1, 5-0-1 Jefferson) will travel to Charlottesville Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Orange County (5-3, 3-3) will play at Western Albemarle Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
