Fall Sports Roundup 9.7.16: Monticello hockey, Western volleyball, STAB tennis, AHS golf get wins

Western Albemarle volleyball picked up a solid 3-1 win over Handley Tuesday night, winning 25-23, 25-20, 22-25 and 25-15.


Courtney Berry led the Warriors’ attack with 13 kills while Alema Atuaia notched nine kills. Cassidy Wilson, Adriana Bland and Olivia Nichols combined for 17 kills to round out the offense. Andrea Vial handled the setting with 37 assists while Wilson stepped up at the net defensively with four blocks. Berry and Bland each notched two blocks.


Bland was all over the court, finishing with 15 digs while Jasmine Monge also chipped in 11 digs. Four Western players had two aces each.


Monticello field hockey drops E.C. Glass


With junior Mia Huff notching a hat trick, Monticello field hockey dropped E.C. Glass 8-0.


The Mustangs’ Kendall Smith had two goals and Paige McGlothlin, Brittany Andris and Caleigh Smith scored a goal each. Natalie Gibson also notched an assist.


Albemarle golf beats Eastern View, falls to E.C. Glass in tri-match


Albemarle’s golf team beat Eastern View and fell to E.C. Glass in a tri-match Tuesday. Jack Bruns set the pace for the Patriots with a 38 while Ryan Porter carded a 39 and Nick Ashby put together a 41.


STAB girls tennis sweeps Covenant


St. Anne’s-Belfield’s girls tennis team defeated Covenant 9-0 Tuesday in a hard fought match, highlighted by a thriller at No. 1 doubles.
