Albemarle’s field hockey team picked up a win Thursday night, beating Powhatan 1-0 in a rain-shortened game.

 

Kathryn Bianchetto scored the game-winner and the lone goal for the Patriots as Albemarle generated 10 shots on goal and forced five corners.

 

The Patriots will look to pick up another Jefferson District victory Tuesday on the the road against Louisa County.

 

Monticello volleyball falls in battle with Spotswood

 

Monticello dug in after dropping the first game to Spotswood Thursday night, but the Mustangs couldn’t close the door after taking a one-game lead and the Blazers snagged a 3-2 match victory by winning the fourth and fifth games 25-8 and 15-13 to seal the regular season sweep of the Mustangs.

 

Monticello dropped game one 25-21 and then picked up two straight 25-23 victories.

 

Zimako Chuks led the Mustangs’ offensive assault with 19 kills and also chipped in five digs. Hannah Green was also a force at the net with nine kills and an ace for good measure. Makysha Brock finished with six kills and four blocks, pairing with Moneka Lawrence to give Spotswood a tough time at the net. Lawrence finished with four blocks.

 

Monticello setter Allie Perez triggered the offense with 34 assists. Amaya Gibson had 14 digs for the Mustangs.

 

Monticello (2-2) takes on Western Albemarle Tuesday in Crozet.
