Depth pushes Charlottesville swimming past Monticello

Charlottesville’s swim teams’ depth helped them pick up a pair of wins Tuesday night in a dual meet with Monticello as Charlottesville’s boys pulled out a 95-80 victory and the girls rolled to a 113-63 win.

Charlottesville’s boys won despite Monticello’s individual titles in six events and a relay win for the Mustangs.

CHS had just a pair of individual race winners. Nathaniel Bullard won the 200-IM and Bryan Hancock won the 200-free. In the relays, the Black Knights won the 400-free and 200-free relays with Sam Runkle, Jack McCarthy, Martin Geiger and Bullard handling duties on the 200 while Bullard, Alex Thrift, Hancock and Neil Bouabid swimming the 400. Other than that, the Black Knights thrived by sweeping the second through fourth finishes in several events that Monticello won, including the 200 medley, the 50-freestyle, the 100-free and the 100-fly.

Monticello’s Keenan Sochor won the 100-fly and 100-back, Ryan Mitchell won the 50 and 100-freestyle, Miles Rodi took the 500-free and Reed Shaw won the 100-breast. Monticello also won the 200-medley relay with Mitchell, Sochor, Shaw and Colin Mooney swimming.

The Charlottesville girls, on the other hand, rolled. The Monticello girls managed a win in the 200-medley relay, but other than that it was all Charlottesville as the Black Knights won every other event.

Haley Arata won the 100-breast, Charlotte Keeley took the 100-back, Anna Perry won the 500-free, Emily Keeley took the 100-free, Molly Folger won in the diving segment and Marya Jazouli won the 200 free. Madeline Keach was the most dominant however with a pair of individual victories in the 100-fly and 200-IM. CHS took the 400-free and 200-free relays as well.
