Monticello’s golf squad graduated a slew of key players, including Evan Childress, Carson Wilmer and Kevin Archer.
But a new crop is coming together nicely for the Mustangs this season under coach Pam Bradley and Monticello took a big step forward with a dual match victory Thursday over Western Albemarle.
The Mustangs topped Western with a cumulative nine-hole score of 162, edging the Warriors by three strokes. Robert Deane led the way with a 38. Whitney Pace wasn’t far behind with a 40 while Michael Comer and Danny Larrabee checked in with two 42s.
Western’s Kyle Landis led the Warriors with a 38. Kent Miller and Hunter Weis checked in with 39s and Nick Norris rounded out the effort with a 49.
Monticello next takes on Powhatan Monday at Glenmore in another dual match.
