Covenant wins VIC golf title, Blue Ridge takes third

It was awfully close, but Covenant’s golf team pulled out the win in the VIC golf championships Monday, with a 344 team score to hold off second-place Carlisle’s 345.

Blue Ridge checked in at 351 to round out the top three.

Ray Rushton’s 81 led the way for the Eagles as he earned All-VIC honors and fifth place in the individual competition. Kurt Diduch, who also earned an All-VIC first team nod, carded an 82. Brandon DeJong’s 92 and Walt Morris’ 89 rounded out the team score for the Eagles.

Blue Ridge’s Mason Schmidt was lowest local contender with a 79, finishing fourth in the individual competition behind Carlisle’s Wes Smith (individual champ with a 75), Carlisle’s Basil Boyd and Cole Ray of Hargrave. Peng Kamonprapasawat’s 88 as well as Eric Zeng and George Zhou’s 92s rounded out the Barons’ scoring.

Miller carded a 442, with Jack Pritchard’s 97 leading the way.
