Covenant girls lacrosse rolls to quarterfinal win

It didn’t take long for No. 2-seeded Covenant to take control.

The Eagles’ girls lacrosse squad made short work of Middleburg Academy Thursday afternoon in the VISAA Division 2 quarterfinals, rolling 16-8 to advance to the state tournament’s semifinal round at Old Dominion University in Norfolk.

Rachel Rapp led the way early with a four-goal first half, attacking seemingly at will from the top of the offensive formation. Taylor Brown also notched four goals for the game while also dishing out a pair of assists for Covenant.

The Eagles also got two-goal efforts from Sadie Bryant, Charlotte Delaney and Virginia Dittmar. Delaney also had two assists. Jenna Clark’s one-goal, one-assist outing and Alicia Fox’s goal rounded out the scoring for the Eagles.

Covenant will face Highland in the state semifinals after Highland knocked off Norfolk Collegiate 20-8 Tuesday. Foxcroft and Cape Henry will face off in the other semifinal.
