Covenant boys tennis takes another VIC title

Covenant’s boys tennis team is at it again.

For the eighth straight year, the Eagles won the Virginia Independent Conference tennis tournament title, this time with a hard fought 5-4 victory over North Cross.

With losses at No. 1 and No. 2, it was the bottom part of the ladder that elevated Covenant to the win. William Rose, Kevin Coleman, Roger Wang and Noah Hollins won their matches, giving Covenant a 4-2 lead going into doubles.

That proved to be a huge advantage for the Eagles and Coleman and Matthew Rose teamed up for the decisive doubles win, beating North Cross’ Michael Fleming and Zander Theoharris 8-4 to sew up the conference title for the Eagles.

Covenant will start a journey to potentially their seventh straight VISAA state title Tuesday with a home state quarterfinal matchup.
