Covenant boys lacrosse falls to St. Chris

Covenant’s boys lacrosse team has played a challenging schedule this year and it continued Saturday in the squad’s regular season finale.

The Eagles, ranked No. 1 in VISAA’s Division II, headed to Richmond to face St. Christopher’s and fell 8-6 to the Division I Saints.

John Burke led the Saints with a hat trick and two assists while Neil Carns notched a pair of goals for St. Christopher’s.

The Eagles trailed 7-3 going into the final frame, but rallied to pull within two goals but that was as close as Covenant got.

Peter Garland led the Eagles with three goals while Jay Gaffney had two goals and Alex Ern rounded out the scoring with a goal of his own. Walker Cross dished out two assists.

Covenant keeper Bredt Stockwell finished with eight saves for the Eagles.

With the postseason looming, the Eagles’ regular season slate should have prepared them well for the playoffs. They’ll begin Virginia Independent Conference play this week.
