Covenant boys lacrosse eases past Hargrave

Facing a Hargrave Military Academy team that’d beaten a ranked Roanoke Catholic squad and twice knocked off Liberty Christian, VISAAA Division II No.1-ranked Covenant appeared poised for a significant test Tuesday afternoon.

Instead, the Eagles made short work of Hargrave, cruising 21-1 over the Tigers.

Peter Garland and Win Marks each poured in five goals goals to ignite the Covenant offense, while Drew Gaffney and Alex Ern also registering hat tricks in the easy win. The Eagles moved the ball well, assisting on 14 of their 21 goals with Walker Cross registering three assists. Spencer Godine, Nathan Colberg, Garland and Gaffney had two assists a piece.

Godine picked up 10 ground balls on the day to lead the Eagles while Austin Llera snagged six and Drew Gaffney had five.

Hargrave put just six shots on the cage as Covenant held a big possession advantage with a 17-7 advantage on faceoffs.

Covenant will try and keep the momentum going this week as they head up to Blue Ridge Thursday at 4:30 to face the Barons, currently ranked fourth in VISAA Division 1.
