Continued weather woes force JD championships back

The clock is ticking. The Jefferson District has but a few days worth of a window to squeeze in its championships in wrestling, indoor track and swimming and diving. Both the wrestling and swimming and diving meets were supposed to take place on Saturday, but those events were cancelled well in advance of the winter storm that rolled through the area starting on Friday morning.

Both of those meets were postponed, with wrestling scheduled for Tuesday and swimming and diving moved to Thurdsday, but it remains to be seen whether or not it’s going to be possible to hold them those days either.

The indoor track championship was and still is slated for Wednesday.

All three sports have Region II meets looming a week away, forcing the district to come up with a solution. And while swimmers can qualify for regionals by a time they post in the regular season, that isn’t so for a sport like wrestling, which would decide its advancing players by a vote.

It’s been a wild two weeks for athletics in the area and this week doesn’t look to be any different.
