Commonwealth, Dogwood, Bull Run, James River track recaps

Albemarle put together some solid finishes in the Commonwealth District track and field championships late last week with the girls squad taking seventh while the boys notched a fifth place finish. Colonial Forge swept both titles.

Sophomore Ryan Thomas paced the Albemarle effort with a victory in the 800-meter run, clocking in at 1:55.69 with UVa-bound runner Adam Visokay following in fourth.

Casey Russell won the girls pole vault with a 10-0 clearance while Brieona Booker took third in girls triple jump for the Patriots. The 4×800 girls relay team took second while the 4×800 boys matched it. The boys relay squads in the 4×100 finished second while the 4×400 boys took third.

Cierra Ulan grabbed a third place in the 1600 for the Patriots while Allison Huschke took fifth.

Orange County’s Trenton Day, a junior, took third in the 400-meter dash and eighth in the 200-meters.

Nelson boys win Dogwood District

Nelson County’s boys track team win Dogwood title by a sizeable margin, girls take fifth

Rodrell Smith won the long jump, took second in the 100-meters, won the 400-meters and won the 200-meters. Tyler Vest took second in the long jump and also grabbed third in the triple jump and a runner-up in the high jump

Miguel Zarate won the 1600-meters and the 3200, with James Ballowe notching a third place for Nelson.

Oljuwan Meredith-Vance won the 300 hurdles

Ashley Wells took third in the high jump and second in the shot put

Ramona Bryant won 1600 meters and 3200 meters for the Governors, with teammate Abigail Ballowe taking third in the 3200.

Morris puts together incredible outing at Bull Run meet

William Monroe’s boys squad finished fourth in the Bull Run, largely on the strength

Dakwan Morris won the long jump with a 21-foot effort, finished third in the high jump at 5-8, placed second in the 200-meter dash at 23.06 and won the 100-meters with a time of 11.33. He was also a part of the 4×100 relay squad that clocked a time of 45.06. Morris earned athlete of the year honors in the Bull Run for the effort.

Goochland boys finish second overall at James River meet

The Goochland boys squad finished second overall behind an Amelia County squad that swept the James River girls and boys titles. The Lady Bulldogs finished sixth.

The Bulldogs’ Matthew Haller won discus title while teammate Kevin Lyda took second place. Harry Talmage finished second in 400-meter and won the 800-meter race for Goochland.

Freshman Bradley Clore took third in 100-meters while Marcus Houston took third in 1600-meter boys and third in the 3200-meters. The boys 4×100 team finished as the runner-up and Zakell Johnson rolled in as the runner-up in the 200-meter race. Cephas Harden won the boys 300 hurdles for the Bulldogs.

On the girls side, Jalen Gregory took third in 1600-meters, Erica Herrera won the girls 300 hurdles and the girls 4×400 squad won the relay by more than 10 seconds.

Buckingham County had a solid showing at the James River too, with Malik Woodson placing third in boys triple jump while the boys 4×400 team won, edging out Cumberland.

The girls 4×100 team finished as the runner-up, and Kassie Conway clocked in at second in the 400. Freshman Marisa Robinson finished second in 800 meters.
