Buckingham soccer survives and advances

Buckingham County needed a good amount of extra soccer to get it done, but the Knights managed to keep their season alive with a thrilling 4-3 quadruple overtime victory over Appomattox Monday night.

Buckingham, fresh off a loss to Randolph Henry in the James River District final, allowed a quick Appomattox goal when Gaige Brooks floated a shot over the outstretched arms of Buckingham’s standout keeper Jason Conway in the first two minutes of the game. The Knights answered quickly with a Marco Knezivec free kick two minutes later. Neither squad managed to gain an edge after that and the 1-1 tie stood at the half.

Appomttox struck quickly again after the break, with Shaquan Moore breaking through. But the Knights answered again too, with Bobby Dandridge and Mikey Amos scoring a goal each to give the Knights a 3-2 edge.

Appomattox managed to find the equalizer in the 75th, when Austin Vaughan broke through to even the game at 3-3, a score that stood through three overtimes of five minutes each. Mikey Amos then finished the game off, with a solid score in the 99th minute for Buckingham, winning the game in the golden goal portion of the game.

Buckingham will play the winner of the George Mason and Woodstock-Central game Wednesday at 6 p.m.
