Buckingham soccer picks up a pair of wins

Buckingham’s soccer squad picked up a pair of solid wins already this week, trouncing Randolph-Henry Monday 5-1 and following it up with a 4-0 victory over Central Lunenburg Wednesday. The wins put Buckingham in the driver’s seat for the James River District title at 8-0-1 in JRD play.

The Knights got started early against Randolph-Henry with an early score in the eighth minute by Bobby Dandridge off a Mikey Amos assist. Dandridge followed that with two more goals in the first half to complete the hat trick in just 24 minutes and give the Knights a 3-0 lead at the break.

A Randolph-Henry own goal and a Mikey Amos strike in the 68th minute rounded out the scoring for the Knights in the second half.

Wednesday against Lunenberg, Dandridge connected on his 16th goal of the season just 14 minutes into the game. Amos then scored 12 minutes later (his eighth of the season) to put the Knights up 2-0. Peter Johnston scored in the 31st minute and a Central own goal in the second half pushed the advantage to 4-0. The Buckingham defense of Leroy Vincent, Jacob Judgins, Danny Raji and keeper Jason Conway put together another shutout. Conway has allowed just 11 goals on the season.

The Knights face Nottoway Friday afternoon.
