Buckingham soccer completes undefeated district season

Buckingham County’s soccer team has already wrapped up a James River District title, but the Knights didn’t overlook Central Lunenburg Thursday night, rolling 7-0 to complete an unbeaten regular season in JRD play.

With center defender Leroy Vincent out of the lineup, Buckingham shored up its defense with midfielder Russell Taylor rotating back. The unit that’s allowed just .75 goals per game didn’t miss a beat, holding Lunenburg to a single shot.

Buckingham, on the other hand, got things going quickly on offense. The Knighs scored in the eighth, 11th,12th, 17th and 27th minutes before the break, then added two more goals in the 39th,and the 44th minutes.  Marco Knezivec led the way with a hat trick while Bobby Dandridge and Mike Amos each had two goals.

Buckingham keeper Jason Conway had a clean slate and an easy evening having to only stop that lone shot while Lunenburg  goalie Dalton Foley had a busy evening with 11 saves on a barrage of Buckingham shots.

This is Buckingham’s first ever James River regular season title. Now the Knights will try and make it a sweep in the district tournament set to kick off Tuesday.
