Western Albemarle’s boys tennis team’s season ended Wednesday afternoon as the Warriors fell 5-2 at the hands of Blacksburg in the 3A West Region semifinals.
Western managed to snag a pair of singles matches with Scott Grover and Joe Squillace winning their matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots on the ladder. But a solid performance at the bottom of he ladder by Blacksburg and a hard fought win at No. 1 by the Bruins’ Thomas Ducker over Tucker Ottoway where Ottway took the first set before falling 6-2, 7-5, gave BHS a 4-2 advantage going into doubles.
A win at No. 2 doubles by Ryan Wells and Matty Ducker sealed the match for the Bruins.
The Warriors finish the season at 18-2. Ottaway and Grover will continue singles and doubles play next week in the Region 3A West singles and doubles tournament at Spotswood next week.
