Basketball Roundup 1.8.16

Miller’s boys basketball team took care of business against Middleburg Friday night, rolling 71-57 to pick up a solid win while leading wire-to-wire.

 

A balanced scoring effort ignited the Mavericks, with Tyler Creammer notching 18 points while Ron Alston finished with 17, Jaylin Reed pouring in 16 points and Chance Sheffey putting together a 12-point night.

 

The Mavericks led by as much as 28 points against Middleburg, thanks in part to Creammer cleaning up the boards with 13 rebounds to go with three assists. He got some help on the glass from Matteo Sanchez, who pulled down 10 rebounds. Alston dished out five assists while Reed had three and Sheffey finished with four helpers. Reed and Sheffey also had five and four rebounds respectively.

 

Buckingham boys fall to Cumberland

 

Ahmad Booker poured in 26 points for Cumberland to help knock off Buckingham County 59-40 as the Knights fell to 6-5 on the year.

 

Leon Ragland finished with 15 points and nine rebounds but the Knights as a team struggled from the field, shooting just 25 percent from the floor on the night including a 1-for-24 outing beyond the arc. Buckingham also committed 14 turnovers and managed just seven steals of their own.

 

Michael Allen was another bright spot on the boards for the Knights with 10 rebounds and Brycen Newby pulled down eight rebounds.

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s girls basketball team made short work of Collegiate Friday, rolling 74-37 over the Cougars thanks in large part to Sierra Smith’s 17 points and 15 rebounds. … Woodberry Forest boys basketball beat Collegiate 45-44 in overtime. … The Buckingham girls beat Cumberland 47-40. …Madison’s girls team fell 49-20 to Strasburg. …Nelson County’s boys beat Chatham 54-45 to move to 5-5 on the year, with Anthony Lee scoring 24 points and pulling down eight rebounds. … Louisa County’s boys beat Fluvanna County 76-43. …Orange County’s girls beat Powhatan 62-43 to move to 11-2 overall.
