Basketball roundup 1.9.16

St. Anne’s-Belfield’s girls basketball plays incredibly fast and even though squads seem prepared for that, sometimes there just isn’t much you can do.

 

Carlisle couldn’t Saturday afternoon as the Saints rolled 88-38 with a high energy attack led by Bri Tinsley, who finished with 21 points and six assists.

 

Three other Saints got into double figures. Jovia Winkey and Ashley Taylor each finished with 14 points, with Taylor hitting four 3-pointers.  Mailynn Steppe notched 13 points.

 

Sierra Smith cleaned up as usual on the boards with 16 rebounds despite the fact that the Saints rested their starters for long stretches in the second half.

 

The Saints (7-3) will host Trinity Episcopal Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.

 

Orange girls beat Madison

 

Orange County’s girls basketball team beat Madison County 52-22 Saturday, pushing the Hornets to 12-2 on the season.

 

A balanced offense led the way for Orange. Laine Harrington had 12 points including three 3-pointers and Kiani Hudgens finished with nine points. Erin Ryder finished with nine points, going 9-for-15 at the free throw line.

 

Diamond Towles and Lindsay Slaughter had six points each.

 

Makayla Taylor and Makenna Santinga had six points each to lead the Mountaineers.

 

Fork Union falls in Prep League opener

 

Fork Union fell 87-64 to St. Christopher’s Saturday, falling to 2-5 on the year and 0-1 in the Prep League.

 

Carl Trice led the Blue Devils with 13 points. Adisa Giddens-Smith notched 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Stanley White had 12 points and five rebounds.

 

Alexander Petrie finished with 24 points to lead St. Christopher’s while Nic Sherod scored 22, pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out three assists.

 

The Blue Devils will host Woodberry Forest Tuesday at 6 p.m.

 

Other Scores

 

Blue Ridge basketball fell to John Marshall 70-69 at the Virginiapreps.com Classic. Scott Spencer finished with 22 points and eight rebounds. Afanna Offor had 18 points including five 3-pointers and Malik Johnson had 13 points and five assists.

 

Madison boys basketball beat Orange County 87-62 with Dylan Breeden pouring in 26 points, Isiah Smith finishing with 17 points and Dalton Taylor notching 15 points.
