Basketball Roundup 1.14.16

Orange County’s Kiani Hudgens finished with 14 points including nine in the third quarter that turned a tie game at halftime into a 14-point lead and eventually a 51-35 victory over Fluvanna County Thursday night.

 

Diamond Towles finished with nine points while Laine Harrington notched eight points on the night.

 

The Flucos got 15 points from Kate Stutz, but Orange clamped down on Stutz after halftime, limiting the Flucos’ standout to just five points after the break, with three of them coming at the free throw line.

 

The win pushes the Hornets to 14-2 overall and 6-2 in the Jefferson District.

 

Covenant boys beat Eastern Mennonite

 

Matt Shobe lit things up from beyond the arc for Covenant Thursday night which helped lift the Eagles to a 55-50 win over Eastern Mennonite.

 

Shobe scored 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds, with six 3-pointers making up the bulk of that performance. Devan McAuley chipped in 13 points including a pair free throws to put the game out of reach with four seconds to play.

 

Covenant (9-9, 3-3 VIC) takes on Steward on the road Tuesday.
