Basketball Roundup 1.12.17: Anderson leads AHS with a triple double, Monroe squads grab wins

With a strong effort from J’Quan Anderson, Albemarle’s boys basketball team cruised past Orange County 82-40 Wednesday night.

The Patriots’ junior guard posted a triple double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, getting the job done all over the floor. Jake Hahn and Austin Katstra also had big nights with Hahn scoring 23 points while Katstra finished with a double double, 22 points and 10 rebounds.

That all-around effort helped the Patriots build a 23-10 lead in the first quarter and eventually a 48-19 advantage before halftime.

Kaeshawn Braxton led the Hornets with 14 points.

 

William Monroe boys pick up a win

William Monroe’s boys basketball team beat Central 66-37 Wednesday night, pushing Monroe to an 11-1 mark on the season.

Jalen Anderson led the charge for the Dragons with 18 points and nine rebounds. Malique Shackleford poured in 14 points while Kam’ron McCain set the table all night at the point with 12 assists.

 

William Monroe girls blow past Central

With Sam Brunelle leading the way with a stat-sheet filling effort, William Monroe’s girls basketball team knocked off Central Woodstock Wednesday 48-21.

Brunelle finished with 26 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and four blocks for Monroe to anchor the Dragons and outscore Central on her own. Meanwhile, Kristin Manz had seven points and five rebounds and Dajour Strother had six points and six boards.

 

Albemarle girls stay on track against Orange

Albemarle’s girls basketball team picked up another solid Jefferson District win Wednesday, beating Orange County 60-37.

Haylee Howard-Radde had 18 to lead Albemarle, while Anne Riddenhour notched 10 points and Aiyannah Tyler-Cooper chipped in with eight. Sincere Cook had 13 for Orange while Erin Ryder had nine for the Hornets.
