Balanced Western girls lacrosse attack pushes Warriors past Fluvanna

Western Albemarle scored in the first 15 seconds and didn’t lose control from there Tuesday night as the Warriors rolled 19-4 over Fluvanna County to open West Central Division play.

The Warriors (2-2, 1-0) spread the wealth, with seven different players scoring the first seven goals. Fluvanna finally ended that run with nine minutes to play in the opening half, but Western rebounded with seven straight goals to build a 14-1 lead at the break.

Bridget Shaffrey, Ellie Allen, Morgan Schuler and Faris Wallenborn led the Warriors with four points each. Shaffrey and Allen had three goals and an assist each while Wallenborn had two goals and two assists. Schuler had a goal and three assists.

Linda Hexter notched a hat trick and Allison Berg had a goal and two assists. Becca Moriconi rounded out the bulk of the scoring with two goals.

Start goalie Maya Langma stopped five of six Fluvanna shots while she was in the net.

Olivia Rentz led Western with six draw controls.

Western Albemarle will try and continue that momentum Friday when they host Albemarle in a crucial divisional battle.
