Albemarle golf wins JD-mini match

Albemarle’s golf team got off to a solid start Monday, with a trio of players carding scores in the 70s to snag a victory in the Jefferson District mini-match at Birdwood.

Playing in some rainy conditions, the Patriots got big-time performances from medalist Graham Johnson who put together a round of 74, Chase Nortcott who carded a 77 and Jack Robbins who checked in with a 79. Foster Ezell rounded out the top four with an 85 for the Patriots to boost them to the win over second place Charlottesville, who finished with a 329.

The Black Knights’ Phillip Hoffman led the way with a 78 while A.J. Stouffer finished with a 79. Thad Probst’s 84 and Banks Northington’s 88 helped boost CHS into second place.

Monticello High took third with senior trio Robbie Deane, Danny Larrabee and Ryan Pace setting the tone. Larrabee had a 77, Deane checked in with a 78 and Pace had an 82. Andrew Vermillion’s 94 rounded out the Mustangs’ top four.

Western finished fourth, seven strokes behind Monticello, with Kyle Landis’ 75 leaving him just a shot behind Johnson in the individual race. Orange took fifth while Louisa and Fluvanna finished sixth and seventh.

The win gives Albemarle seven points toward the district championship.
