Albemarle girls tennis holds off Stafford

Albemarle’s girls tennis team picked up a key road win against Stafford Tuesday night, but it didn’t come easy.

The Patriots edged the Indians 6-3. The win puts Albemarle at 5-0 and tied for the Commonwealth district lead.

Steady play at No. 4 and No. 5 from Caroline Chisholm and Kaitlyn Grossman got the Patriots on the board early with a 2-0 lead.  But Stafford answered, notching a win at No. 5 where Brooke Harmon snuck past Molly Napolitano 10-8.  Albemarle freshman Madie Williamson settled down after a slow start to pull out a win at No. 6 10-7 and senior Callie Murray added another win to push the Pats to an advantage of 4-1.

At No. 1 singles though Stafford Junior Natalie Bohmke found a way to hold on to a lead and edged Albemarle’s top seed Alison Henry 10-7 in the longest singles affair on the evening.
In doubles Albemarle narrowly took the No. 2 and No. 3 pairings while Stafford grabbed the No. 1 seed to finish things up.
