Albemarle girls tennis goes 2-0 on the week

Albemarle High’s girls tennis team is off and running to a 2-0 start with 9-0 victories over Brooke Point and North Stafford last week. The Patriots bounced back from a stumble against powerful E.C. Glass in a preseason scrimmage and rolled past the two Commonwealth teams in convincing fashion.

It didn’t much matter either that No. 2-seeded senior Abby Lesnoff is out with an injury. Albemarle is stacked with seven seniors including No. 1-seed and returning Scrimmage Play player of the year Megan Napolitano, and that should help steady any early season pitfalls.

That experience played a major role in the North Stafford win as six seniors started for the Patriots and swept the Indians.

Albemarle now faces the tall task of trying to stop Mills Godwin of Richmond Monday on the road. Godwin is a regular factor in the state title race.
