Albemarle girls soccer shuts out Riverbend

Albemarle High’s girls soccer team picked up its fifth win of the season Tuesday night with a 5-0 victory over Stafford.

The Patriots got a big-time defensive effort during a slow first half. Lauren Truwitt, Abby Davison, Katherine Waldron and Madison Keck-Wilson combined with keeper Grace Leytham to hold the Indians scoreless before the break as Albemarle clung to a 1-0 lead at the break.

The floodgates opened after the break though, and Albemarle built a 15-5 shot advantage during the contest and put five total in the back of the net with Maggie Tubridy and Carmen Thomas scoring twice each. Ali Starr rounded out the scoring with a goal of her own and also connected on a pair of assists. Tubridy also had an assist.

Jazzy Laredo finished with an assist.

The Patriots (5-1) take the field again Thursday night at Riverbend at 7 p.m.
