Albemarle needed to bounce back quickly after last week’s loss to Western Friday with Monticello looming Monday.
The Patriots were apparently up to the task.
Albemarle picked up a 17-15 victory over the Mustangs Monday night with Connor Carson leading the way with another strong offensive effort.
Carson poured in eight goals for Albemarle and got a lot of help from Hanna Shaps and Ryann Murray who had four goals and three goals each. Anna Smith and Mai Toms each also had a goal.
Monticello countered with a one-two punch from Ari Slate (six goals) and Sydney Larese (five goals and one assist) but the Mustangs couldn’t claw back from a 12-9 halftime deficit. Bailey Mincer chipped in a pair of goals for Monticello too while Caroline Firer managed a goal and two assists.
Albemarle held a 31-29 advantage on shots and got 10 saves out of keeper Kelsey Rund in the cage.
Albemarle is now 3-2 and hit the road to take on Battlefield Wednesday. The Mustangs get a chance to bounce back Friday against Fluvanna County at home at 7 p.m.
