Albemarle girls lacrosse holds off Patrick Henry

Road wins are never easy to come by, and when you get one — especially against a playoff squad — it’s worth savoring.

Albemarle’s girls lacrosse team can enjoy one after Tuesday night and they’ll get plenty of time to do so as they don’t play again for two full weeks. The Patriots held off Patrick Henry-Roanoke 14-12 on the road to pick up a key early season win.

Connor Carson, as usual, led the way offensively for Albemarle with six goals and a pair of assists, but Carolyn Chapman also came up big with a four goal night. Mai Toms rounded out the bulk of the scoring with two goals while Ryann Murray and Rebecca Mendelsohn had a goal each.

Kelsey Rund came up with 11 saves on the night for Albemarle. Patrick Henry got a pair of hat tricks out of Annie Johnson and Maddie Blackwell.

The Patriots are now 2-1 and get a long break before re-taking the field April 10 against St. Catherine’s on the road.
