Albemarle girls lacrosse digs out of early hole, wins conference title

Albemarle’s girls lacrosse team slipped into a hole out of the gate against Massaponax in the North/West Conference title game, but just as quickly the Patriots clawed out with a huge run and picked up a 15-9 win, the conference title and a home game in the region tournament.

 

Albemarle reeled off a long 9-0 run after dropping into a 4-1 hole to open the game with nine different scorers contributing to the spurt.

 

Cam Edson finished with a team-high four goals for the Patriots while Lizzy Chapman, Lindsey Earles and Morgan Rose each notched two goals. Chapman also had two assists while Rose finished with one assist. Gwen Pattison had a goal and two assists while Angie Chapman had a goal and an assist. Kelsey Myers and Bridget Pinnata scored once.

 

Caroline Sheppard finished with 10 saves.

 

The Patriots will host Deep Run Monday at 7 p.m. in the first round of the region tournament.
