Albemarle field hockey beats Powhatan 1-0 on the road

Lauren Hughlett has been on a tear this week and the senior kept it rolling, scoring a second half goal for Albemarle’s field hockey team in a 1-0 win over Powhatan.

Hughlett notched two goals in the Patriots’ 3-2 win over Covenant on Thursday. With the victory over the Indians, Albemarle moves to 4-0 on the season.

“We had many girls who stepped up and had some of their best games,” said Albemarle coach Brittany McElheny. “Our girls showed their toughness, battling the heat and playing all 60 minutes tonight.”

Kathryn Mayo assisted on the Hughlett goal. The Patriots forced 10 corners on the night while Powhatan had eight.

Albemarle goalies Logan Wood and Lexi Snider combined for five saves on the night.

The Patriots will get a chance to run their record to 5-0 against Louisa County next week at home on Tuesday.
