Albemarle boys tennis sweeps Patrick Henry for Conf. 16 title

While Albemarle’s girls squad was locked in an epic battle for the Conference 16 title on the shared courts at AHS, the boys team managed to wrap up their own championship in less time than it took the girls to play doubles.

The boys squad rolled 5-0 over their counterparts from Patrick Henry-Ashland, with the one through five spots on the ladder coasting to victory.

Jake Brooks posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 and Joey Michel and Doyeop Kim posted nearly identical performances with 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0 victories respectively.

David Grbic and Charlie Shepherd didn’t struggle either with Shepherd winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles while Grbic rolled 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3.

Albemarle (14-2) hosts a quarterfinal 5A North Region match May 27.
