Albemarle boys tennis rumbles past Massaponax

The Albemarle Boys tennis team breezed through the district semifinal round Thursday, defeating Massaponax 5-0.

Senior Jon Pyo led the way, recording a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 1. Junior Ben Anderson scored an impressive win at No. 3, defeating Tevin Jenkins 6-0, 6-3. Jenkins had played Albemarle tough in the regular season losing only 11-10 in the previous match. This time, Anderson brought his entire game, combining great serving, pinpoint passing shots, and a variety of volleys and overheads to notch the victory.

Albemarle (16-2, 16-0 CD) advances to the district finals against upset-mined Riverbend, who defeated heavily favored Stafford 5-4. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
