Albemarle boys soccer falls in Commonwealth semis

Albemarle’s boys soccer team’s season was cut short by North Stafford Tuesday night as the Indians picked up a 2-0 win over the Patriots.

The game was played fairly evenly in the first half, with both teams threatening and both defenses coming up with nice stops. Albemarle’s sophomore goalie Adam Prevost had an incredible one-handed save off of the goalline to keep the game scoreless. Patriots forwards Julian Lowe and Kai Marshall were both able to find daylight on occasion with help from good feeds from the Albemarle midfield (junior Micah Arseneault and captain Steven Bargh in particular).

In the second half, North Stafford managed to finish well on two chances, both long shots from around 20 yards out. Albemarle’s players continued to fight, but couldn’t come up with a goal against a stout Indians defense.

Sheldon Sullivan and Gran Eliopoulos notched goals for North Stafford while goalie Ryan Husted shutdown the Patriots (9-6-3) by coming up with 12 saves.

The loss ends the season for Albemarle.
