After a one-year absence, Albemarle’s boys soccer team is headed back to the state tournament.
The Patriots edged out old Commonwealth District foe Mountain View Wednesday on the road in the Region 5A North semifinals to clinch a state tournament bid and a spot in the region final.
Eliya Budugure came up with the goal for the Patriots with an assist from Michael Vaughn.
In net, Jake Gelnovatch managed four saves to preserve the shutout and keep the Patriots’ season alive.
Albemarle (18-1) advances to the region final where they’ll host Falls Church ahead of the state tournament at Lake Braddock next week.
