Albemarle 74 takes first two games at Williamsburg tourney

The Albemarle Post 74 baseball team got off to a kick start in its tournament in Williamsburg as it won both of its games. Albemarle defeated Gloucester Post 75 handidly, 14-4 to begin the day and followed that up by knocking off last year’s Indiana state champions, Hammond Post 168, 7-6.

Albemarle trailed Hammond 6-0 heading into the sixth inning but roared back with seven unanswered runs with three runners crossing the plate in the sixth and seventh innning before Vince Coles provided the game winning run on RBI single. Logan Forloines provided the runs in the seventh with his 3-run homer.

Jason White started the game for Western and held Post 168 to four earned runs. Andrew Kayliss picked up the win in relief.

In prior game against Gloucester, Geran Steljes earned the victory on the mound.

Albemarle will face last years Virginia state champs in South Richmond Post 137 before playing Hammond again at night.
