An appeal from Scrimmage Play

Step In Header

For three full years now, the staff here at Scrimmage Play has worked to earn your trust. We set out to become the top source for prep sports coverage in Central Virginia. We’ve poured blood, sweat and occasionally tears into making Scrimmage Play and in turn coverage of Central Virginia sports into the envy of the state. Our locally owned operation has put everything we can into making Scrimmage Play what it is today. Along the way, we’ve seen a trend develop that we first positioned ourselves for back in 2010 with the initial launch of our Playmakers Club initiative — community based support. A big thank you to the folks who’ve already taken advantage of that service and in turn supported Scrimmage Play.

As we await a number of small business grant proposals we’ve submitted that will spur future market growth, we now need to ask you, the community a question. What is Scrimmage Play worth to you?

We’re taking on an adjusted approach to how we do things here that puts the support for our publication in your hands. We need to add 900 new Playmakers Club subscribers over the next 30 days. That’s right, we need 900 new subscribers in the next 30 days to step up and say that Scrimmage Play is worth putting $50 in to subscribe. That’s what it will take to keep Scrimmage Play reporting each and every day on high school sports from Goochland to Western Albemarle and from Madison County down to Nelson County at the level you’ve come to expect. It allows us to maintain a select number of advertising partners and to not eat away at the core product that those current partners have helped create. It allows us to print the high quality, glossy magazine you’ve come to expect and to continue updating our technology. It’ll fund travel to playoff games, expanded video and photo coverage as well as new team members. It also allows us to provide community wide access to the magazine and you’ll receive the magazine in your mailbox each time we publish.

Every single bit will help, every single payment will aid what we’re doing and every single purchase will impact the lives of high school athletes throughout the region.

In return for that support, we’re going to offer you access to a digital copy of the magazine for the first time. Perfect for your computer, iPad, other tablets or mobile device.

We are going to continue doing what we do every day, but we’re also going to find a way to engage and support the community in new ways. Truly walk the talk of a community supported publication.

We’re going to found a community-based board of advisors selected from throughout our market area that will help us make sure Scrimmage Play is doing what it takes to cover high school sports in Central Virginia in a complete, in-depth fashion and approach. This board of advisors will include community members, coaches, and student representatives and will function like a business’ board of directors, driving, shaping and creating the vision of Scrimmage Play in Central Virginia as well as future efforts to establish the Scrimmage Play foundation.

We’re going to make ourselves more accountable to readers, fans and the student athletes we cover. We’re going to keep striving not just to recognize the stars but to go beyond the box score and tell the best stories Central Virginia has to offer, just like we’ve done for the last three years.

Together, we can make it 30 more.

If you’d like to invest in a larger way or you own or work for a business that might want to partner with us in print, on the web or via Facebook and Twitter, email us at info@scrimmageplay.com or call us at 434-202-0553. If you would like to be a part of the board of community advisors, do the same. We want to hear from you.
