4.19.18 Jefferson District baseball round up

There’s finally a lone wolf at the top of the Jefferson District standings and it’s Powhatan. The Indians came into Thursday’s matchup with Fluvanna County with strong wins over Western Albemarle and Louisa County. With a 7-3 win over the Flucos, the Indians are officially in the driver’s seat going forward.

 

Powhatan got out to a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Tommy Preston earned the victory on the hill going four and two third innings and getting six strikeouts. Brad Painter was 1-for-3 with two RBI while Cody Willis was 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the way offensively.

 

For Fluvanna, Andrew Ward was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Kevin Ward was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

 

Louisa snaps two game skid

 

After back-to-back losses by a lone run, Louisa County baseball ended its brief skid on Thursday night with a 6-0 win over Monticello.

 

The Lions got six innings out of Tristan Snyder who stuck out eight batters while giving up just three hits and three walks. Austin Nicholas had a big day at the player going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Snyder was was 1-for-3 with two RBI. Lliam Grubbs was 1-for-1 with three walks and two RBI.

 

Dylan Booth and Matthew Allen were each 1-for-3 for Monticello. Tyler Walker was 1-for-2 with a walk.

 

Western picks up second win in a row

 

After a tough go of it last week, the Warriors picked up their second win in three days answering a win over Monticello on Tuesday with a 4-0 victory over Orange County.

 

Garrey Payne picked up the complete game win on the mound and road, going all seven innings and striking out six batters along the way. Jacob Lively was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Luke Tenuta was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Wyatt Hull finished 1-for-1 with a walk, run scored and RBI.

 

Orange’s Christian Koontz, Cannon Davies, Keenan Williams, Jake Guempal and Devin Champion all finished 1-for-3 on the night.

 

Albemarle makes it four in a row

 

Since falling to Louisa last Tuesday, Albemarle has strung together its fourth straight victory with a 10-0 run ruling of Charlottesville in five innings on Thursday.

 

Chris Cook earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings of shutout baseball on 64 pitches with six strikeouts against just two hits and a walk. Six different hitters drove in runs with Andrew Porter going 2-for-4 with two RBI, Scott Reid finishing 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBI and Jett Shue going 1-for-2 with two RBI to lead the way offensively.

 

For Charlottesville, Jack Rabinowitz and Marcus Turgonski were each 1-for-2.
