Woodberry Forest’s Lindell Stone commits to UVa football

Woodberry Forest’s Lindell Stone traveled a long way from home in Texas to go to high school at Woodberry. He won’t have to travel nearly as far for college.

As originally reported by Rivals.com’s Adam Friedman, Stone committed to UVa Monday, with the class of 2017 quarterback becoming the fourth commitment for the Cavaliers in that class according to TheSabre.com’s recruiting class tracker. He joins two Georgia products in safety Joey Blount and offensive lineman Tyler Fannin and Virginia native Tommy Christ, a defensive lineman.  It ends a long recruiting process that started back in eighth grade when UCLA offered Stone as an eighth grader.

By the numbers, Stone is clearly an incredibly productive quarterback. He set the single season passing record for Central Virginia quarterbacks last year, throwing for 3,494 yards and 39 touchdowns. He was only picked off eight times in 363 attempts, and that total yardage comes out to 317.6 yards per game. That performance and the Tigers’ 9-1-1 record earned Stone Scrimmage Play’s offensive player of the year award and the All-SP first team offense honors. Stone also plays lacrosse for the Tigers and has suited up in the Team USA program that his high school coach Clint Alexander regularly participates in as a coach.

Stone had collected offers from throughout the country, ranging from Wisconsin and Maryland in the Big Ten down to Ole Miss in the SEC.

Stone is nothing it not a team-first player, as he proved when he stayed just as engaged in what was going on with the team from the sidelines when injured as a sophomore and as a backup during his first season at Woodberry. He served as a sort of assistant coach during that injury stretch and ran water out to teammates as a freshman. Roll those intangibles in with that incredible productivity and efficiency he put on display last year and it’s no wonder that colleges across the country were clamoring for his services.
