William Monroe boys pull away from Fluvanna County

William Monroe’s boys basketball team has been on a bit of a roller coaster lately, including a loss to Central Woodstock on Tuesday. But, perhaps, with a 67-48 win over Fluvanna County, the Dragons can start getTing into a little bit of a groove.

William Monroe (7-7) used a balanced offensive effort to hold off the Flucos, with five players reaching double figures. Freshman Tucker Shifflett led the attack with 15 points, with nine of those coming in the fourth quarter. Logan Barbour finished with 14 points while Troy Jones and Franklin Lindsay each had 12 points. Daren Morris rounded out that quintet of Dragons in double figures with 11 points and also hauled in eight rebounds, just missing a double double.

Monroe led just 31-28 at the break and extended that lead to 48-41 by the end of the third quarter. The Dragons really took care of business in the fourth, holding the Flucos to seven points defensively while going 10-for-13 at the free throw line.

Fluvanna County got 13 points from Kobe Edmonds while John Boy Rittenhouse finished with 11 points.

The Dragons will host Nelson County Monday in another important out-of-district battle while Fluvanna will look to bounce back quickly at home against Monticello Friday night.
