Western girls lacrosse drops Hanover

Western Albemarle’s girls lacrosse team was hitting on all cylinders from the opening draw Thursday night as the Warriors rolled 16-4 over Hanover in the Region 4A South quarterfinals.

The Warriors jumped out to a 7-0 lead highlighted by Hannah Plantz scoring on a one-timer off a rebound for Western’s sixth goal and never looked back, leading 9-2 headed into halftime. It was more of the same after the break as Hanover struggled to create chances against a locked in Western defense.

Five players notched multi-goal nights for Western with Sammie Magargee’s four-goal, two-assist effort leading the way. Kira Repich and Kate Snyder each finished with three goals and an assist. Hannah Schuler and Anne Patterson each scored twice.

Magargee also had a strong night on the draw with a team-high four controls. Western won 16 of 22 draws on the night to create a huge advantage for the Warriors’ offense.

Catherine Adams and Ava Divitta combined for six saves in the cage for the Warriors.

Western advances to the Region 4A South semifinals next week.
