Swink crosses 1,000-point mark as Madison beats Fluvanna

If you’re going to score your 1,000th career point, it’s best to do it in style like Gaines Swink did for Madison County Monday night in a 70-65 victory over Fluvanna County.

Swink scored 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds while dishing out five assists and blocking a couple of shots. He crossed the 1,000-point mark the way he has scored a lot of them over the last four years too, knocking down a 3-pointer late as the Mountaineers tried to hold off the Flucos.

Madison held a 46-41 lead going into the fourth quarter against the Flucos, but Matt Lewis and Swink combined to lead a 24-point outburst down the stretch to offset the Flucos’ own 24-point fourth quarter and hold on for the win. Lewis finished with 17 points while Khalid West chipped in 14 and Elijah Lewis notched nine.

Madison’s last 1,000-point scorer, Dre Twyman presented the game ball to Swink. Swink is the 11th player in Madison’s program history to reach 1,000 points.

The Mountaineers are scheduled to travel to take on Clarke County Wednesday night.
